The only time that this rank is held is when the Chief of the Defence Force (CDF) is an Air Force Officer. Within the history of the RAAF, there has only ever been three RAAF Officers who have been appointed to (ACM) with the most recent being, Air Chief Marshal Allan "Angus" Houston AC, AFC Retd. Air Chief Marshal is a higher rank than Air Marshal, but lower in rank than "Marshal of the Royal Australian Air Force" which is a five star honorary rank, currently held by HRH, Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh.
